Clinical and Didactic Schedule and Settings

We do not do traditional 1-month block settings, rather our residents rotate through multiple clinical settings each week including general dermatology, surgery, pediatrics, dermatopathology, and inpatient consults. This affords our residents the unique opportunity to continually expand upon their knowledge and skills with frequent and repetitive exposure. 

Residents receive an average of two half-days per week dedicated to administrative, educational, and research time.

Clinical Settings

General Dermatology Clinic - Camden, NJ

Located on the main Health Sciences Campus in Camden, NJ, this is a resident continuity clinic delivering care to an underserved and diverse population. Residents become adept with the diagnosis of complex medical dermatology (e.g., immunobullous disease, connective tissue disease, severe psoriasis, severe eczema) as well as conditions that more commonly affect skin of color (e.g. keloids, alopecia, vitiligo, hidradenitis suppurativa, pigmentation). Residents will become competent in management of these conditions, including the use of systemic medications requiring laboratory evaluation and monitoring (e.g. methotrexate, cyclosporine, isotretinoin, and biologics). 

General Dermatology Clinic - Marlton, NJ

Located in an outpatient, suburban setting, residents can expect significant exposure to cutaneous oncology and general dermatology (e.g. acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis). We are the only residency training center in South Jersey to offer hands-on training in the use of narrow band UVB, UVA, and excimer laser phototherapy for cutaneous disease (e.g. psoriasis, vitiligo, pruritus, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma). 

Dermatologic Surgery Clinic - Marlton, NJ

Located in an outpatient, suburban setting, this is both a resident surgery clinic and a resident cosmetic clinic. This is also the location for Mohs Micrographic Surgery with Dr. Lawrence and Dr. Decker. Residents receive extensive training using the latest cosmetic procedures including neuromodulators, dermal fillers, laser therapy, sclerotherapy, chemical peels, and microneedling for a number of cutaneous concerns and conditions.

MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinic - Camden, NJ

Located on the main Health Sciences Campus, surgical oncology is performed here in a multidisciplinary setting.

Pediatric Dermatology Clinic - Camden, NJ

Located on the Health Sciences Campus, residents can expect exposure to both common and rare pediatric conditions with our Pediatric Board-Certified dermatologist every Friday.

Dermatopathology

Faculty is comprised of multiple instructors who trained at prestigious institutions with world-renowned dermatopathologists.

Inpatient Consultation Service

Our robust inpatient consultation service provides residents the skills to manage hospitalized patients with complex diseases (e.g. vasculitis, drug hypersensitivity reactions including Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, eczema herpeticum) in an adult and pediatric inpatient setting with a multidisciplinary team at Cooper University Hospital. Our inpatient service is staffed daily after outpatient clinic.
