Additional Benefits

  • Continuing Medical Education (CME):
    • Stipends will be available for books, CME travel and other appropriate expenses in the amount of $1,000.00 per year or $3,000.00 for the entire length of the program (3 years) as approved by the Program Director.
    • CME money can be spent for expenses to SAEM, ACEP or other national conferences (i.e. CORD), study aides, textbooks and/or up to $500.00 towards additional books/literature/learning tools.
    • Electronic Stipend: Residents will receive an additional, one-time $200.00 increase and will be permitted to use another $100.00 from their CME stipends (as long as there is an available balance) to be used to subsidize the purchase of electronic hardware to enhance their educational experience.
    • HR Team Member Development: Human Resources offers an additional $500.00 per calendar year for staff development. This is available to Cooper employees that will remain employed at Cooper for an additional 12 months.
  • Cell Phone Stipends: A monthly phone stipend to Cooper residents and fellows of $40 per month.
  • Meal Stipend: $115 (taxed)/month added in your pay
  • USMLE/COMLEX Step 3: Cooper offers reimbursement for USMLE/COMLEX Step 3 fees (one or the other, not both)
  • Tintinalli (textbook): Residents will be supplied with one copy of Tintinalli upon entry into the program. In the event that the resident already has their own current copy of this text, they may have $100 to spend on another book during their first year. Other books required by the program will also be paid for separately.
  • Membership Dues: The department will pay membership dues for SAEM, ACEP and EMRA for each resident for the entire length of the program (3 years). Dues for additional memberships (ex: CORD, AAEM, EM sub-specialty organizations) may be covered by the Alumni fund on a case-by-case basis. EMRA dues cover EMRAP subscription.
  • UpToDate®: Covered by the Alumni Fund for each resident.
  • Free Parking on Campus
  • Life Support Training: The cost of attending BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS are free to the residents if taken at Cooper prior to the expiration of the current certification. The Department will also pay the fee for each resident to attend ATLS training. Additional training courses (ex: Basic Disaster Life Support, Advanced Disaster Life Support, etc.) may be covered by the Alumni fund on a case-by-case basis.
  • Rotation Expenses: The Department will reimburse the resident for fees associated with applying for PA training permit in order to rotate at St. Chris. The resident must submit proper back-up for processing reimbursement in a timely fashion.
  • License/Permit fees: Cooper GME trainees are eligible for reimbursement for: New Jersey Medical Permit Application Fee of $50.00; Fingerprinting Fee of $65.00
  • Inservice Exams: The Department will pay for the fee annual in-training examination for each resident.
  • Chief Residents receive an additional $750.00 to attend the Annual CORD Academic Assembly Chief Residents Forum.
