Message From the Chief Residents

Thank you for your interest in the Cooper University Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program! This is an exciting time to enter the field of medicine and to join Cooper University Hospital.

We are located in Camden, New Jersey, just minutes from downtown Philadelphia. As the major tertiary referral center for southern New Jersey, we serve a diverse patient population. This ranges from the medically underserved population of Camden to the more affluent surrounding suburbs closer to the Jersey Shore. We are the only level 1 trauma center for South Jersey, which also offers us unique experiences taking care of these critically ill patients. Cooper also has a large and growing network of outpatient offices throughout New Jersey, making our outpatient training equally as diverse as our inpatient training.

We pride ourselves on being a comprehensive academic program with our primary emphasis on training internists. We are fortunate to have every medical subspecialty represented at Cooper as well, which not only enhances our training but provides important experience for those interested in further subspecialty training. Our formalized curriculum, created by program leadership, ensures important balance between service responsibilities and education. Residents are encouraged to step into the educator role early by leading lectures and SIM sessions. We also have an appropriate balance of autonomy and supervision, empowered to make decisions to advance patient care while also having someone to run ideas by at all times. A unique strength to Cooper is the camaraderie between our residents. We are truly a family here at Cooper IM, and residents thrive together both inside and outside the hospital. We value rigorous medical training, but also emphasize resident wellness both inside and outside the hospital. Our culture is warm, friendly and collaborative and we look for candidates who would fit well into this environment. You will find that your colleagues are hardworking, intelligent, and collegial. Our program leadership is approachable and always looking to work with the residents to improve our program. We encourage you to consider becoming a part of our Cooper IM family!
